It is very well padded for the horse and contoured in the wither. Also for horses that have visible spinal processes and badly muscled backs. I would love it even better if it didn't have the non-slip underside as I cannot believe it is 100% comfortable to the horse, but I just put a thin pad between it and my horse and carry on. All Physio pads are shaped to accommodate the horse's spine and offer ideal pressure absorption and distribution. Suitable also for older horses. The girth straps are concealed and they are mounted centrally on skirts. But regardless, I prefer this bareback pad over my saddle. Specifically recommended for very slender riders and heavy riders. I prefer riding bareback but it was uncomfortable for both of us.

If I had it to do over I would not get the physio inserts. Inserting the foam inserts give additional protection to your horse's back and ensures clearance from the spine. Lower part: This pad is anatomically cut, made of quilted cotton and is thinner under the upper thigh for a close leg contact. The underside has an additional padding. I would have given five stars if the pads were inserted prior to arrival - instead, it took me quite some time to finally get them inserted and fit properly. Every ride since has been better. A fairly short dressage girth is needed because of the side pads that are part of the girthing system. This system offers additional clearance and lift over the spinal processes of the thoracic vertebrae and consists of two components which are pressure absorbing and are connected securely via velcro. The Barefoot Physio Bareback Pad comes with the two sets of inserts to provied extra back and wither clearance. They therefore distribute pressure over the whole pad area.
