As others mentioned - the sites are varied. View of reservoir and surroundings grass-covered hills dotted with pines was pleasant. Had no cell service and loved it. We maneuvered the camper so we could look out on the lake. There are several camping areas bot. For the rustic experience without the hassle of a tent, check out the group shelter at 32. Plenty of birds and very busy weekend use.
Being later in the year we didn't get enough solar to satisfy our power needs, but I only needed to run the generator an hour or two a day to top off the batteries. We were passing through and caught a lot of fisherman, canoes, bikers and hikers. We had no water electric or sewer but what this park offers is splendid views, miles and miles of trails and tranquility worthy of contemplation. On the second day we drove down to the second reservoir and I actually liked it down there better. Vault toilets were reasonably clean - our area had no water or hookups.
We where able to maneuver the rig to point our big picture window to overlook the lake. We explored around the lake and it was very busy with lots of people fishing from the shore line and hiking. We would have explored the many hiking trails had it been cooler. Arrived at site and discovered it was a mud pit! We drove in to see what was open. Dump site is out-of-commission indefinitely. Fishers can cast their poles straight from the shore. Campsites 17 — 31 have water and electric hookups, and 31 — 33 are just steps away from the sparkling reservoir.

The site that I camped in was level and did not require any leveling whatsoever, but some of the sites would require some leveling so look around and find one that suits your desire to level. Many of the first come, first served sites are suitable for tents. Also zero privacy, but easy access.

One day someone didn't bother to close the lids of the dumpsters and birds had picked at the trash and strewn it over making a real mess. The area is beautiful with forests and rock formations. We spent time in both Cheyenne and Laramie, and both were a nice drive from the park. We spent 4 nights here and the park is awesome. We arrived in late Oct, and had seen some now off the road coming in from a previous storm. Great Lake views, plenty of space between sites, nice hiking trails and good cell and satellite service.
Made for the most rugged of folks, ther are no picnic tables, water supply, or comfort stations. We choice a first come overlook site.
