Zurich to host Diamond League Final in 2020 and 2021
The list of disciplines that will be included in the broadcast window will be decided at the end of the outdoor season. Points at qualification meetings: Place Points 1 st 8 2 nd 7 3 rd 6 4 th 5 5 th 4 6 th 3 7 th 2 8 th 1. Each of the disciplines is staged six times before the Final. It also promises a more consistent, action packed format for broadcasters and gives fans a persuasive reason to come back to the sport week in and week out to follow the star athletes as they gain points to qualify for an exciting end of season final. The changes are the result of a year-long review, which included detailed research and discussions with athletes, coaches, fans and broadcasters. In the 200m, 400m and 400m Hurdles, the top 7 athletes qualify for the final.

In case of a tie, the best legal performance of the qualification phase wins. These events will continue to be at the discretion of the meet organisers as they are today. . The history of the Zurich meeting goes back to 1928, when Paavo Nurmi was the star of the first international meeting held at the Letzigrund Stadium. Each meeting will host 12 of the 24 disciplines — 6 male and 6 female events. We expect the new Diamond League format to be even more thrilling for our global audience as it builds excitement throughout the outdoor season and reaches a crescendo in Zurich. It will deliver a more consistent, action-packed format for broadcasters and fans to follow the top global athletes competing head to head for points that qualify them for a place in the season final.
Rules, Points & Prize Money
Diamond League Champions will be crowned in all 24 disciplines at the final. A thletes earn points at the qualification meetings to qualify for the final of their discipline. From 2022 to 2024 the final can rotate annually as all meetings will be invited to apply to host the final. At each of the 14 qualification meetings, Athletes are awarded 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 or 1 points for ranking 1 st to 8 th respectively. The Wanda Diamond League encompasses 24 Diamond Disciplines, following a championship style model. .
