This was our first cruise on this size ship, our only other experience was to Antarctica on an icebreaker with an emphasis on kayaking. We were lucky enough to see sea eagles and whales. Out on deck you may participate in live points of interest to learn more about the nature, culture and other phenomena we encounter along the coast. Upgraded to silver package to get coffee and tea making facilities and free wifi was worth it. I was given a taste to see if it was to my liking and she poured away when she saw the big grin on my face. The cabin Arctic Superior is roomy for a ship and immaculate. It was much easier to handle when following precisely in the path of the driver before you, through fresh snow rather than harder iced areas.

My average score would have been higher if the meals had been better and the prices on board not so prohibitive but my advice is to do it - as it is a good experience but not one for those who enjoy fine dining or a luxury cruise. Exploring the ship Boarding at 3pm, we were greeted in reception by the smiling Marguerthe, who directed us to where we could leave our luggage until our cabin was ready, and provided all the necessary information about the ship and its routines to ensure we made it to all meals and excursions on time. All 100 passengers and 54 crew on the Explorer were safely rescued; the Explorer later sank. The Expedition Team also lead the way off-ship, on a variety of hikes offered on every voyage. Water could be too hot, had to sit on the side to cool!! Hurtigruten's long history of voyage along this route guarantees you the most enjoyable Norwegian cruise experience found anywhere.

We went on the Birdsafari - brilliant, please promote. Utter nonsense: it's not a public place in that sense and they don't search the bags. However we were expected to have lunch at 10. If the image displayed is old, it is most likely due to an issue onboard the ship out of our control. If you don't like the dinner menu you can change it. Excursions are also on the pricey side, but the expedition hiking pass is good value for keen hikers.

The 623-passenger ship travels a remote route where the sun shines almost 24 hours a day in the summer months — a sharp contrast to the winters, when passengers are getting up and going to bed in the dark. Not many people embarked in Tromso; most began the cruise in Bergen for either the full return trip to Kirkenes and back 12 days or disembarked in Kirkenes 7 days for further experiences above the Arctic Circle, such as staying in the Kirkenes Snowhotel and explorations overland for the Northern Lights sightings. Food was good, great selection at breakfast and lunch, evening meal was restricted as a set menu, disappointing, would have preferred some choice here. Our vegetarian status was not a problem at dinner. Knew it was not going to be a 'luxury' cruise and a working ship.

The boat picks up and drops off passengers at every port, and, depending on how far they are going may or may not take a cabin. Then part of the supposedly included activities were not in fact included but needed extra payment. Some suites have more facilities than others. Bjørn, Robin and Caterina worked well together and Caterina is very knowledgeable, the Norwegian way times were informative interesting and amusing with Bjørn and Robin having laugh with the passengers. It's really a shame because we would have been happy to book multiple excursions if the prices were reasonable even a little markup is understandable. Since 2002 the Nordnorge has been employed in cruise service during the winter.

Each stop is unique and interesting and the scenery between mesmerizing. You can take a nice fjord day cruise Sognefjord as part of the Norway-in-a Nutshell Oslo to Bergen, Flam train and all that. This forced evacuation was ignored by 25,000 citizens, who instead escaped to live in caves dotted throughout the area, taking the minimum they could with them they were given only 24 hours notice to leave. When we docked in Kirkenes at the end of the north-bound cruise, we stayed the night in Bergen and flew to Oslo the next day. My trip actually began in Copenhagen, then we flew to Bergen, Norway to catch the ship.

Or you don't have to book any of them. Many of the crew were from Norway so they knew the territory. There wasn't a question they couldn't answer. We even were able to see the Northern lights a few of the evenings. Day 2: Honnigsvåg Docking in Honnigsvåg, we were rugged up with our four layers on our bottom halves and five layers on our top halves even without our coats ready for our tour to a local fishing village to learn about the indigenous Sámi people, their way of life and traditions.

£10 for a lager, £40+ for a run of the mill Pinot Grigio, £80-£100 for a 2 hour sightseeing tour, etc. All material recorded from the bow camera is licensed under the licence and is fully available to be downloaded via. I think I put on about 4 kg. Not everyone went to the events and they still enjoyed themselves. We didn't make many of the excursions, but those we did take were well organised, informative and fun. Some nice scenery at first, but the same, day after day after day.
