Its development had started in 1995. The chairman of the board is Birger Magnus, Marius Lillelien heads the broadcasting department, and the head of the news department is Marius Tetlie. Switch off started on 11 January 2017, and ended on 13 December 2017. It originally premiered in Norway under the name Vikingane Vikings on in October 2016.

Initially broadcasting in Norwegian, English-language programs were added later. The first season won the award in 2017 for Best Comedy Show, and it was also nominated for Best Sound Production Peter Clausen and Erling Rein. The service was discontinued on 1 January 2002. Based on a model similar to that of the and located in , it was a replacement for privately operated radio stations in larger cities. It is produced for by Viafilm.

Norwegian writer Marie Kleve praised the parody violence and how it reflects stories from our time while the characters are living in the Viking era. In 1996, a second television channel, , was launched. However, these mediumwave transmissions were discontinued on 1 July 2006. During the , Norwegian transmitters were used to broadcast to Northern Europe particularly Scotland and the northern half of Ireland, where the sea path ensured a good signal and Scandinavia.

The original television channel is now known as. The series is recorded in the village of in municipality, , Norway, and it was recorded simultaneously in both and -language versions. Regular broadcasts started in 1960. Season two was filmed in early 2017. He loves to go on raids but he also wants to settle in the village. The 24-hour news station started in 1997, followed by a radio station for teenagers, mP3, in 2000, which mostly plays dance music. The story covers the life of Vikings in the town of Norheim and them dealing with day-to-day life and conflict of varying comedic degrees.

The first season of the English version was made available on 's video streaming service in August 2017 under the name Norsemen, and season two was made available in October 2018. . As the series progresses, disputes with neighboring villages, including a rival tribe with a chief wanting to modernize Norheim's culture, result in conflicts that the main characters must deal with. In March 2019, it was decided to liquidate the broadcasting fee from 1 January 2020. They also contribute news coverage to national news programmes. The series is written and directed by Jon Iver Helgaker and Jonas Torgersen.
