We value collaboration — given the systems sized challenges we face we need to learn how to work productively and innovatively across traditional barriers. Whether it is the need for clean drinking water or roads or inexpensive housing or even broadband access in the remotest parts of the country, the Sustainable Development Goals adopted in 2015 by the United Nations, are now becoming the fulcrum for emerging growth markets. But from greentech companies seeking to market engineering-led solutions designed to deal with waste or capture carbon, through to inner-city ventures providing education or work opportunities, there is considerable diversity among the companies that gather beneath the sustainability umbrella. We, as European citizens, businesspeople and leaders, are currently navigating unprecedented uncertainty in our political, economic and natural environment. Setting An Agenda Of course, there is always a danger that an event of this nature will try to cover too much ground. I want to share with you three insights from those conversations.

So is it really possible to stage a coherent event around that offers something to a potentially very disparate cohort of attendees? Participants have been invited to collaborate and work together to address these issues. Europe is a fantastic place. The conversations that Europe Delivers has kick-started are now beginning to bear fruit. And, while our politicians struggle to break the impasse, Europe's people are taking matters into their own hands. It is places like Hamburg that make me deeply proud to be European. Nor is there any consensus on what a growing divide between rich and poor or young and old in some countries means for social cohesion.
