I love to ride and meet people from all Groups and Ages. My only wish would be if the seat were a little lower for vertically challenged people 5'4 and under. Once you've done that, we can have some real, substantive discussions about the general philosophy and whether a machine that's easier to ride amounts to compensation for lesser riding skills or a false sense of security. It's a demonstration that this technology can work, and work very well, with a real, tangible benefit to the rider. He kept it, kept riding it, and it kept growing on him.

Though, weirdly, to drive something like a Morgan 3-wheeler, you now have to pass a full motorcycle test. And the place where weight is most a factor is going up hill. It has a 16-litre capacity and side pockets.
Even a relative novice can ride like a pro as far as curves are concerned, and I know personally I rode today with much more confidence than I've ever had before. Just trying to see what people think of this amazing vehicle. The surface finish is smooth, reinforcing the streamlined look of the vehicle, which has a highly dynamic appearance. The dual front wheels are not worth the extra weight and complexity. The front wheels are on single-sided leading link arms, but are also connected together so as to stay parallel to each other, with a teeter totter sort of pivot somewhere behind the headlights.
I know this is a Spyder site but we're all reasonable people here. . I know this scooter is not everyones cup of tea, but I been very pleased with it so far, and I'm going to chop it in for a Gilera Fuoco 500 same thing with a 500cc lump. I ended up in Santa Cruz before I headed home, and did a total of 186 miles for the day. The steering does actually work while the suspension is locked, but since the bike will unlock as soon as any throttle is applied, this becomes a fairly insignificant point. Your level of detail made me feel like I was riding the scooter with you. There are tall people in the world, and they want to ride scooters, too.
Why is it a surprise? All in all, I love the bike. Not the newfangled lean-side-to-side part of the suspension, but the traditional up-and-down part. I can leave any time I like and it takes me 20 mins to get to work, 14 km away. In fact, this is my one consistent complaint about the Piaggio not Vespa models: The seat on nearly all the models forces you into a specific spot, and the foot positions are very limited. Bit big and I can't see where to plug in the headset.
You are not going to beat anyone off the line, or whip out in front of that semi at 80 mph. It's very easy to get in and around traffic. The ignition switch does many different things simultaneously, maybe to the point of confusion. There are people over on the Spyder forum that have disabilities that couldn't ride at all if it weren't for these overweight 3 wheelers. Kudos to Piaggio for that. She is comfortable being on the highway with me on the Spyder and says she would like to be able to drive it as well. Furthermore, in many areas of North America, the harsh winters forbids winter riding, limiting the functionality of a 2-wheeled vehicle.
Typical top speed on a flat-out road was 70 to 75, and sometimes lower. In fact, I did lock up the rear wheel on at least three separate occasions. I have been ahead of larger bikes who could not stay up at the slower safer lane splitting speeds. Three wheelers have their place as do the people who want to ride them. Much better than spilling it all over your paint and down onto your muffler.
So, ride what you will, but don't condemn another's ride unless you can back it up with facts and figures, and personal riding experience. It packs in a four-stroke thumper that rocks a 94 mm bore and 71 mm stroke for a grand total of 493 cc, and uses a single over-head cam to time and actuate the four-poppet valvetrain with roller tappets for reduced wear. I really don't judge anybody no matter what there drive and what there wear. I've ridden all my life, since I was 12. There's just about one place to put your feet, and one position to sit in on the seat. It's quite possible although not especially common to lock the suspension in an undesirable posture if you happen to be leaning a bit when you hit the switch. There is also a parking brake, which is manual and mechanical.
