Every time you ski you have the opportunity to test 2 kick waxes. Midlayer klister applied on Base klister to avoid that the top layer klister slides back into the glide zone. It was scary and a little bit heartbreaking to sand the beautiful, shiny smooth P-tex base of my new skis. The higher the number, the softer the was. If I were you I'd just try applying it thicker and maybe switching to the swix universal. I would start by trying Swix universal klister and seeing how that works. If you do, it tends to slide off the base of the ski and onto the sides.

Only waxable classic skis need kick wax. The heat from your hand helps spread the klister and bind it to the base a bit better. Note how the wax tech rubs the cork from the edges of his wax pocket inwards. If you use the same iron for binder and glide wax, make sure to thoroughly clean the iron. The area of the base where you apply kick wax is called the wax pocket or the kick zone.

There are 2-3 grip waxes we use the majority of the time. This is important because it builds the wax up thicker where the ski is most flexed.

Kick Waxing

Last weekend I used swix violet klister which stayed on the ski great but I felt like I really had to push down harder than kick wax to get grip. In Canada Toko is really not very popular so I can't say. Label your skis A and B and make a note of which wax you use on each ski. It's cheaper than wax remover and won't dry your hands out too much. What does everyone do for klister? KB20C Base klister spray, 70ml

To be used as first lay for other klisters. The Most Important Thing More than anything else, you want good grip. You can lengthen it later. After a while, the klister will have disappeared. It will help you make your application smooth. I think its a bit better than the Toko but I can't really say. We usually ended up using red swix klister, most of the people in Alaska prefer swix over toko.

One trick I always use when applying klister: after applying it to the skis, spread it smooth with the heel of your hand. Then we would put on the klister thicker than kick wax and if the snow was really wet we would put extra under the ball of our foot.
