Usually tikka masala has a lot of cream, but this sauce was more about delicious spices and not much cream. The chicken was so tender that me and my colleagues could cut it with our spoon. It's a refreshing addition to the Oslo food-scene. This is a pretty popular restaurant so make a reservation or plan to eat late. In addition to this we had a very outgoing and lovely waiter who made the experience even better by offering small bits of extra information here and there. Lighting too low to be able to read the tiny font on the menu Service : extremely friendly, efficient and professional. All in all it was a very pleasant dining experience, a great value for money, and I will definitely come back.
Although there were some tempting options, there was no room for dessert, as the portions are quite large. From taking in visual delights at Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Viking Ship Museum, the Munch Museum and Holmenkollen, to the challenging content within the new Nobel Peace Centre and the Holocaust Centre, Oslo offers plenty of food for thought. What a time to be alive! Oh and the fire alarm went off when we were there, and 2 minutes after we all stepped outside, the servers came and handed us all warm tea. Our waiter was very service minded and guided us with confidence through the menu. We asked if we could have dinner there and were told it was fine. We went for two smaller street food dishes to start with - Gol Gappe and deep fried chicken with coconut.
So we had some garlic naan delicious and a delicious chicken dish and an even more delicious halibut tikka masala. This was the single best Indian meal we've eaten anywhere in the world! The menu is varied and interesting, and the dishes have little stories explaining them. It's homey, dim lit and you feel comfortable in your place. It was breath taking to say the least. Then the chef sent out an excellent complimentary dessert. Intriguing personal references which were explained to us by our charming host. Everything was above and beyond in taste, texture and presentation.
The staff was super-friendly and helpful, too! In order to receive the confirmation it is important that you remember to tick the box for terms and conditions and then press «Complete Booking». Good price and you will get full , I even got a doggy bags with me home quite unusual for me, but maybe my friends didn't contribute as much? The main course was also very tasteful and it was more than enough food for 2 person. The food was not typical by any means; but it was exquisite where some dishes namely the butter chicken was pure perfection. For mains, we chose the homestyle Tadka Daal and Gosht Chappain tandoori lamb chops with tandoori sauce, with tandoori parantha a wholemeal flatbread with layers of butter inside , rice and raita. This is absolutely top class of Indian restaurants I've visited. Me and my husband celebrated our 60 year-birthdays with some of our friends at this restaurant. So my frame of reference for this review is substantial.
The tadka daal was maore subtle in flavour, but also very good and well-balanced. We had a reservation, which is absolutely recommended on a busy night. Der Peppern Gror is suspiciously and, to me, happily reminiscient of the London restaurant chain Dishoom. The perfectly seasoned and cooked lamb chops were a standout, and the tandoori sauce which the waiter was keen to point out is not found in India, but is made to accomodate westerns eating styles was rich and delicious. We will absolutely return to this restaurant and recommend this to everyone! Location : central, not divisively east or west. We had the large tasting-menu and it was fantastic! In light of this we deiced to dine at Der Pepperen Gror.
In addition it was a great dessert consisting of sorbet ice and fresh berries. I am only sad I did not get to hug her goodbye If any business owners see this, give your nordlending female waitress a biiig hug, she is doing her job incredibly well! As I have heard, the food here is a bit spicy - so it is not for everyone. The Oslo Pass allows free travel on public transport, free parking and many museum and sight admissions. For a couple of us, that meant a trip home, though. Generous portions and great alternatives for the children, who choose Chicken tikka masala.
The atmosphere is well planed and cool with aluminum glasses for water and a rustic interior with original concrete walls. Be aware of the noise if you're sensitive. At the evening we were there, we really enjoyed ourselves - all of our guests also agree. Der Peppern Gror is one of the few stylish restaurantants that serve Indian food. Your food was amazingly tasty. The interior is seriously cool and modern, and very different from most other Indian restuarants in Oslo. We had a great evening at Der Peppern Gror on the 28th of February.
If it weren't for the alcohol, the price would have been laughable. Food was very tasty and reasonably priced for one of the most expensive cities in the word. With all what you want from indian food and more. I had been at Pepper'n before, but my date had not. It made for a very enjoyable dinner experience.
