And I loved Soon Tek Oh's Lee! This Emmy award winning series was so good but the video is incredibly grainy throughout, with lighting issues. I'm an E English teacher, and East of Eden is my favorite novel of all time. They skip some in the movie that was in the book, but it does follow it very well. I really loved the character that Lloyd Bridges played, he was awesome! When I read the book recently I kept seeing her as the character even though the character in the book is blond. Lots of really dark scenes, lots of grainy scenes which almost made it unwatchable in spots. But because of that, it remains absolutely true to the book.
Jane Seymour played this character very well! I also like the way Adam tried to help his sons, Caleb and Aaron, eventhough he made some of the same mistakes that his father did! Cathy was so mean and wicked, and full of pure evil, she was a she-devil for sure!. If u can get past it, this version goes so much more in depth compared to the James Dean version, which itself is good, but incomplete. And I felt sorry for Adam who did not deserve to be treated so badly, he deserved to be treated so much better! It starts out with half-brothers Adam and Charles Trask! It's hard to find an adaptation to please me. Then, years later I read the book and I remember the mini-series and this is the adaptation straight from the book. It's a mini series, so longer than a movie.
Product Description Based on John Steinbeck's novel of two brothers, twin sons and the twisted woman behind their tragic fates. I so loved those emerald green mountains, and those beautiful valleys of California! Heartbreaking, haunting, and yet uplifting, the novel, and therefore this mini series has the power to change lives. Anyone who saw the James Dean version in the 50s, only got part of this intriguing story by Steinbeck. The theme of good versus evil runs rampant throughout and entangles itself in the Trask family legacy through each generation. Comparing the movie and the mini-series, is like comparing apples and oranges. And she was a lousy mother, and a awful wife! Their father wants Adam to become a soldier, and for Charles to remain on the farm, and be a farmer. Adam who is the good, and kind brother, is his father's favorite son, whereas Charles is not, so Charles is very jealous of Adam being the favorite! A recreation of the biblical story of Cain and Abel, East of Eden follows estranged half-brothers Adam and Charles Timothy Bottoms and Bruce Boxleitner as they reunite after the death of their father, Cyrus Warren Oates.
This movie will keep you going, you never know what the evil Cathy is going to do next! There was some breathtaking scenery in this movie! I kept thinking as I watched this movie, how could somebody be as beautiful as she is ,and still be so mean! This three-disc set features a biography on John Steinbeck, exclusive interview with Jane Seymour, and cast filmographies. The heartbreaking story of two sets of brothers, this is a modern adaptation of the Cain and Able story. This story is about the Trask family's generations of brothers, from the Civil War thur the World War I! The original broadcast was nothing like this transfer. Excellent all the way around. Jane Seymour as the psychopathic Kate Trask is wonderful - mesmerising in both her beauty and deadliness.
I liked it very much, but I also remember thinking that it was nothing like the James Dean movie. Fans of Steinbeck and Seymour alike will be pleased with this retelling which won an Emmy for best art direction and Golden Globe for best miniseries. Adam does not want to go, but Adam ends up being a soldier, while Charles ends up being a farmer. All she seemed to want to do with her life is to use men, with her beauty, and become a full-fledged prostitute of all things, and she never seemed to love no body but herself! I wished we could have found out what happen to Charles in the movie, after Adam left the farm to go to California! And my favorite brother was Charles Bruce Boxleitner , who you find out is not all that bad afterall! Jane Seymour does a great job as Kathy. There is a lot to view, so those of us used to binge-watching more modern shows will enjoy dedicating time to this beautiful and well acted story. . .
