Here students learned to fashion new objects based from time-honoured materials. Today, the open-air museum consists of around 40 buildings and is one of Sweden's largest museums. The Christmas season at Kulturen starts the first weekend of Advent with a large Christmas fair Julstöket. Kulturen full name, Kulturhistoriska föreningen för södra Sverige is a non-profit organisation founded in 1882 and currently has around 3,500 members. In 1962 Kulturen bought the building and now volunteers run Hökeriet.

Kulturen Lund could therefore buy the church for a bargain. The result was the emergence of a movement to safeguard knowledge and artefacts. BlekingegÄrden was the first house that was purchased and moved to Lund. The houses are partly surrounded by typical gardens and the whole arrangement of buildings, cobbled streets, small squares and open spaces gives the impression of a grown city district. Its main building, which dates from the early 19th century, came to be known as the Nobleman's House. The café in the museum sells pastries, snacks and ice cream.

The house dates back to 1827. As a complement to our exhibitions, we also offer visitors a wide-ranging programme of activities for all ages. The café is situated inside the open-air museum, in historic building which is reflected on both the interior and the range of the café. Many of these exhibitions are based on our cultural history and archaeological collections, although visitors are also welcome to view photographic exhibitions and displays as diverse as interactive exhibitions for children with playtime themes and exhibitions on democracy and human rights. Nowadays, the museum's collection consists of around 250,000 artefacts of cultural and historical value, 500,000 photographs and 1 million archaeological finds. Kulturen Lund opened in 1892, making it the second open air museum in Sweden, just after Skansen in Stockholm that opened only a few months earlier.
