I actually really like the idea of the mother not being able to accept her child's turn, that felt really genuine and almost true to how I imagine parents of real killers must feel. Texts of the Egyptian tradition emerge later and contain many more tales of much more varied content; a much larger number of originally independent tales have been incorporated into the collection over the centuries, most of them after the Galland manuscript was written, and were being included as late as in the 18th and 19th centuries, perhaps in order to attain the eponymous number of 1001 nights.
